What’s with your name? I mean, surely it’s just pronounced the way it’s spelled.
I was named after the female protagonist in a tragic Russian novel. In Russian, it’s spelled
The letter ‘C’ in Russian can be translated into English with either two S’s or one S. Most translators agree that, in the case of Larissa, it should be two and that’s what my dad went with when he was filling out the papers at the hospital.
I don’t even say my entire name correctly. My parents do but I don’t. For the record, my entire name correctly would be…
L as in “lee (L.IY)” ; AA as in “odd (AA.D)” ; R as in “read (R.IY.D)” ; IY as in “eat (IY.T)” ; S as in “sea (S.IY)” ; AH as in “hut (HH.AH.T)”
You see that first ‘A’? The one that should be said like “odd”? Yeah, I tend to say it like the last ‘A’. Though, again, it’s probably still prettier said the correct way. I think as long as you get the second syllable right, you’ve captured the spirit of the name so I’m not fussy about the rest.
Do you have a comments policy?
All comments are moderated unless you’ve commented before in which case your comment will be auto-posted, however, I reserve the right to retroactively moderate those comments as well. I used to respond to every comment I get, I don’t have the time to do that anymore but I try my best.
Opinions are like belly buttons, everybody has them. In case you couldn’t tell from this blog’s tagline, I’m pretty damn opinionated. I don’t know anyone who agrees with me on every single thing. So, disagree to your heart’s content, just be civil about it.
I ignore anonymous commentators. Sorry, not sorry.
Do you have an advertising policy?
Right now I don’t get paid for anything I write about. If I endorse something, it’s because I really, really like it. If you’d like to advertise on this blog, please contact me to see if there’s something to be worked out.
Do you have any other policy?
Um, don’t steal from me. I don’t steal from others. I try to credit image sources as much as possible. If you see an uncredited image that you know the source of, please let me know so I can give them credit. And…all opinions are mine and not reflective of any of the organizations that associate with me. Obviously.
